This document sets a foundation for a secure, interoperable smart grid in the United States and is the culmination of several years of work by the Smart Grid Interoperability Panel. The ongoing work and future technologies will merely be informed by this document as the smart grid continues to evolve and practices are improved upon. NIST identifies four major groups that will benefit most form this document, including utilities and suppliers, testing laboratories and certification organizations, academia, and regulators.
