Burkina Faso"s location in the Sahel region of West Africa, makes it particularly vulnerable to the adverse effects of climate variability and change. It has a very weak economy, mainly based on agriculture. 46.4% of Burkina Faso"s population lives below the poverty line, justifying its eligibility to create a National Adaptation Programmes of Action (NAPA). Through the creations of its NAPA, Burkina Faso identified vulnerable key sectors and vulnerable populations. The NAPA also created and ranked twelve actions that should enable Burkina Faso to better cope with the adverse effects of climate variability and change.
