This multinational research project investigates demand-side management (DSM) measures that may provide alternatives to augmentation of electricity networks. Advanced metering and load control technologies can support electricity networks in several ways. Advanced meters and load control technologies, such as interval meters and smart meters, are enabling technologies for price-based demand programs. DSM can help reduce peak loads, allow customers to control their energy usage and allow remote control of appliances and equipment on customers' premises.
