This paper explores how food security, adaptation and carbon management objectives can be achieved at the local level? Constraints and opportunities are discussed from a local context in Indonesia.

This paper argues that without significant efforts in stabilising global carbon in all sectors, the atmosphere will be increasingly insecure for humans and the environment. It highlights the negative impacts of climate change on food production and the even more serious challenge that this will post in 2050. To ensure that climate adaptation, food security and climate mitigation objectives are mutually achieved, the paper argues that local level intervention is necessary. It argues that local level action where efforts achieving food security through mutual adoption of climate adaptation (e.g. drought and soil erosion management through land and water conservation measures) and carbon mitigation.
