This policy brief, produced by Care International, outlines a bilateral Reduced Emissions form Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD) pilot project – the Kalimantan Forests and Climate Partnership (KFCP).

The KFCP project aims to reduce deforestation and forest degradation of peat swamp forest by mitigating the frequency and severity of fire, protecting existing peat land and rewetting and rehabilitating degraded peat land. It also aims to develop livelihood options that do not rely on illegal logging or fire in peat lands.

Care International assists with community engagement activities related to KFCP. These activities include: supporting community planning and consultation, providing information about KFCP and listening to community concerns and addressing them with partner organizations. The brief argues that the success of REDD+ depends on an effective and meaningful participatory process.
