This publication highlights the Regional Climate Change Adaptation Knowledge Platform’s (AKP) work in Bhutan towards building bridges between existing knowledge on climate change adaptation and the governments, agencies and communities that need this knowledge to inform their efforts to adapt to the impacts of climate change. The study’s key findings are: 1) Awareness of climate change is strong in Bhutan, but there is no overall framework for addressing adaptation at policy or planning levels; 2) Both short- and long-term climate risks need to be better integrated into planning and policy making processes, in relation to sector-specific responses to both climate variability and extreme events, and planning and implementation approaches that reflect and can cope with uncertainty; 3) Although several training activities had taken place, a systematic appraisal of training needs and the development of a strategy for both human resources and institutional change are required.
