The Information and Communications Technology Sector as the Driving Force on the Way to Sustained Climate Protection

This is an addendum to the Smart2020 report, focusing on the potential for Information and Communications Technology (ICT) to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in Germany within the context of the Integrated Energy and Climate Program. Five categories are defined as potential carbon dioxide reduction sectors: smart logistics, smart buildings, smart motors, smart grid, and dematerialization. The report describes barriers and suggests a policy framework that would aid in developing the listed categories.
