This report, an annual global review of project development and its drivers, serves as a reference point for the broader carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) community in understanding the "state of play" in the development of CCS activities and projects globally. Key findings highlight that governments and industry are in the early stages of implementing large-scale international programs to shorten the timeframe for the commercial deployment of CCS. Programs remain focused on the demonstration phase for developing and improving capture technologies in new industrial applications and proving the safe and secure long-term sequestration of carbon dioxide. This demonstration phase is likely to last for more than a decade.
