Water security, especially in the context of climatic change, is recognised as a global security challenge. This framework aims to provide information and advice on climate change adaptation and water resources management for policymakers and decision-makers in the Asia-Pacific region. The paper identifies the need for better coordinated action among leaders and policymakers, water managers, scientists, local communities and the civil society. It outlines five principles to support climate change adaptation in the water sector: develop and disseminate usable knowledge on climate change and the water sector; promote ‘no regrets’ investments in water security; increase the resilience of populations in the Asia-Pacific region through improved water risk management; enhance action on both climate change mitigation and adaptation, including integrated water resource management (IWRM); and mobilise sufficient financing to address adaptation needs.
