In accordance with the Convention, Belize chose the year 1994 for its first National Inventory of Sources and Sinks of Greenhouse Gases. The results of the Inventory reveal that Belize is a net sink for greenhouse gases. Yet, it is obvious that Belize is extremely vulnerable to adverse impacts of climate change.
A recurrent theme which arose during the preparation of this First National Communication was the need to sensitise the general public and decision makers, especially the political directorate, on the potential impact of climate change on the country and on the opportunities being offered by the mechanisms of the Convention to address climate change.
