This special issue of the Environment & Urbanization journal was edited by the Women in Informal Employment: Globalizing and Organizing (WIEGO) network. The articles in the issue focus on informal sector employment allowing for a comprehensive survey of literature and specific accounts of the working lives of a broad spectrum of groups throughout the world. The work includes concrete policy suggestions for strengthening urban livelihoods. The articles also address climate change and adaptation in cities.
