The development objective of the Energy Efficiency Project for Argentina is to reduce greenhouse emissions by removing the regulatory, financing and informational barriers that prevent activities and investments in energy efficiency and energy conservation. This level two restructuring consist of a reallocation of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) grants from second component development of a utility Energy Efficiency (EE) program to first component development of the Argentina EE fund. The changes will allow the project to use the savings of the GEF grants from second component to create and fund a credit line under the existing trust fund, National Fund for Development of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (FONAPyME) to finance energy efficiency activities in Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs), resulting in greater energy savings than originally expected.
