This report demonstrates how the decentralization of power generation to the local level and the use of renewable energy sources can help reduce prolonged outages and increase electricity supply in rural areas in India. The report shows that where grid supply is poor and dependence is high on diesel and kerosene for lighting and other commercial activities, distributed generation and supply of renewable energy is economically and financially competitive, in both on- and off-grid scenarios.
