In support of the United Nations Sustainable Energy for All initiative (SE4ALL) and to promote the region's energy future, the energy ministers of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) adopted a regional renewable energy policy resolution on 31 October 2012. The resolution aims to contribute to the SE4ALL goals of universal access to modern energy services by 2030, doubling (1) the share of renewable energy and (2) the global rate of improvements in energy efficiency by setting regional targets and policies. The resolution sets specific targets in renewable energy, clean cookstoves, renewable energy equipment manufacturing, and clean energy finance. It also states that each signatory should have a national renewable energy policy in place by 2014 to support these targets. (The report is also available in French.)
