This report addresses the key drivers and issues in the European power system, and it aims to investigate the developments related to distributed generation (DG) technologies in the European Commission. It also addresses the technical issues towards the DG integration into the European power systems. The report presents and reviews three new distribution architectures under development, including active networks, microgrids and virtual power plants.
