Bangladeshi ministries and non-governmental organisations have been implementing a number of local level adaptation (LLA) projects in response to the National Adaptation Programme of Action (NAPA) and the Bangladesh Climate Change Strategies and Action Plan (BCCSAP). This report notes that there is a need in Bangladesh for updated information and knowledge on climate change trends, risks and vulnerability of human and ecological systems, adaptation options and technologies, as well as planning, implementation and evaluation of LLA. Focusing on two case studies from Bangladesh, one in a coastal area and the other in a drought-prone area, this research aims to better understand how the local conditions and external factors determine the effectiveness of local level adaptation initiatives. The case studies mainly employed qualitative methods and participatory reflections of project staff and communities collected through focus group discussion and key informant interviews.
