Access to energy is essential to addressing the causes of poverty. This report demonstrates the role coal has in delivering energy to the 1.3 billion people who lack access to energy and how it can help build sustainable communities. The publication examines the global energy challenge, coal’s role in delivering clean energy, and coal and sustainable development. The report argues that new technologies and business practices mean coal will be a key part of a low carbon future. It also highlights three key recommendations necessary to delivering energy access for all: ambitious global energy access targets; rapid deployment of all advanced coal technologies; and financial backing.
