Latin America and the Caribbean should be a natural home for clean energy investment. The region is blessed with exceptional natural resources, ready to be harnessed by photovoltaic, wind, geothermal and other clean energy technologies. Many of the region’s nations have seen strong economic growth over the past five years and are projected to continue to grow at 3+% over the next at least two years. Most also have energy security concerns and a strong desire to become more energy self-sufficient.
Climatescope is a comprehensive index and report assessing the environment for low-carbon investment in Latin America and the Caribbean. This second edition identifies new frontiers, in both countries and sectors, for low-carbon investment, clean energy capacity build-up and carbon offset project development in the region. Climatescope profiles 26 countries in the region, evaluates their ability and potential to attract capital for low-carbon energy sources, and ranks them based on what has been achieved to date. All of the countries profiled are borrowing members of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
