Over the next 25 years, GHG emissions from tourism are projected to more than double in a business-as-usual scenario. While tourism is not unique in this respect, these trends are out of step with the climate policy objectives of the international community. Global emissions have to be reduced by at least 50% from their 1990 level by 2050, if temperature stabilisation is to be achieved at less than 2°C average warming above pre-industrial levels (IPCC, 2007). The results presented in this report indicate different approaches that governments and tourism organisations will use to reduce their emissions in line with the reductions required of other sectors.
