The problem of addressing overcapacity in small-scale fisheries is much more complex than that of reducing overcapacity in industrial fleets, suggets this research.

This book discusses many key aspects of fisheries management addressing both the undervalued view of fisheries and adaptive management approaches. This selected chapter focuses on the impacts of climate change and responses.

The complexity in small-scale fisheries is compounded by: growing opulations, sluggish economies, fishers’ high dependence on the resource for food and livelihood, a paucity of non-fishery employment, increasing numbers of part-time and seasonal fishers, limited transferability of and rigidities in the movement of use-specific capital and labour, conflicting policies and data availability.
