This article examines clean fossil policies and practices that are in place for the government of China as well as Chinese national research programs, industrial research programs, and international collaboration projects related to clean coal. Integrated gasification combined cycles (IGCC) technology is analysed in relation to its success when implemented with carbon capture and storage methodologies. Other clean coal technologies reviewed include supercritical and ultra supercritical pulverised coal combustion (PCC), circulating fluidised bed combustion (CFBC), and flue gas desulphurisation and nitrogen oxide removal.
