This policy brief highlights the key issues discussed at the Cities and Resilience Dialogue held in Bangkok, Thailand, in September 2009. The event assessed the progress of Asian cities in addressing anticipated impacts of climate change and was attended by city representatives from India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam; their respective climate change negotiators; and key supporting institutions that operate in the region. The brief outlines what action is needed at the city, national and international level. The importance of climate change action at the city level is discussed and insights with regard to improving analysis, building partnerships, strengthening the policy and enabling environment and ensuring access to resources are given. The brief ends with a list of institutions established to provide support to local level actors dealing with disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation.
