This report reviews the diverse efforts being undertaken to reduce carbon intensities in the major emerging economies of Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, and South Africa. All five countries are vulnerable to climate change risks, and all of them except Brazil are fossil-fuel based economies, according to the report. All five countries should accelerate carbon capture and storage (CCS) efforts to meet their carbon reduction goals and to help mitigate climate change impacts, according to the report. It notes that these countries should also undertake efforts to increase efficiency of future coal-based power and non-power applications.
