The objective of Energy Efficiency Project for Burundi is (i) to develop and adopt selected policy frameworks for energy efficiency and (ii) to selectively improve the energy efficiency of households and buildings in Bujumbura city. Project has four components. Component 1. Distribution and promotion of compact fluorescent lights will focus on: (a) distribution compact fluorescent lights; (b) development and implementation of media communication and public awareness for energy efficient lights; and (3) technical and managerial capacity building. Component 2. Utility energy audit and technical assistance component will support the implementation of a program of activities aimed at supporting the application of results generated from the audit of energy consumption financed by the Multi-Sectoral Water and Electricity Infrastructure Project. It comprehends the development of an action plan with short, medium, and long term objectives to prioritize energy efficiency investments, and the design of small investment packages for energy efficiency. Component 3. Promotion of energy efficiency investments by large consumers component includes: (a) energy efficiency advice to large public institutions, commercial and industrial consumers; and (b) developing national guidelines for application of energy efficient technologies in new housing and commercial real-estate. Component 4. Support to project management, monitoring and evaluation will support to project coordination, management, implementation of an energy efficiency, and preparation of financial audits and periodic evaluations.
