National demand for transport fuel is increasing rapidly in Indonesia, resulting in rising demand for palm oil biodiesel, a domestic fuel. This pressure is seen as a problem with implications for both the economy and the environment by the government of Indonesia. This white paper summarizes the history and current state of biofuels policy in Indonesia. The authors focus on the tension between the renewable energy policy and the drive to reduce carbon emissions of the country.
