The "micro, small and medium enterprises" (MSME) sector plays a vital role in the Indian economy. It contributes to about 45% of manufacturing output and 40% of exports. MSMEs generally use inefficient technologies and practices. The objective of the study is to benchmark the "specific energy consumption" in each of the MSME clusters, and initiate the construction of the "overall picture" of energy consumption for the MSME sector.
