This report discusses the 2008 U.S. Energy Information Administration statistic that electricity consumption in the United States is predicted to grow at an annual rate of 1.07 per cent. The Electric Power Research Institute estimates that energy efficiency and demand response programs have the potential to reduce that growth rate by 22 per cent by the year 2030 and as much as 36 per cent under "ideal" conditions. These numbers are based on currently available technologies available through state and utility-sponsored programs.
