This report, which focuses on the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP), is intended to assess the power pool’s readiness to embrace the objectives of the Africa Clean Energy Corridor and to highlight critical transmission and interconnection gaps. It also proposes high-impact actions for the formation of the corridor, including raising the profile of projects that are ready for investment and identifying stakeholders able to assist in building capacity for the financing and development of such projects. The report also addresses the action agenda items that emerged from June 2013 IRENA workshop in detail in order to identify the issues that need to be considered under each of the three pillars of the agenda. Information and data for the report were obtained through a review of existing literature as well as consultation with key stakeholders, such as the power pool secretariats and utility and government officials.
