In Malmö with its 300,000 inhabitants household waste is collected by the waste management company VA Syd. In the residential area of Augustenborg all fractions of waste are sorted in waste management houses close to residential buildings. In this area, substantial efforts have been made to simplify the sorting of waste and to inform residents about the need to sort waste and thereby participate in the pilot program.

In the residential area of Augustenborg all fractions of waste are sorted in waste management houses close to residential buildings. In this area, substantial efforts have been made to simplify the sorting of waste and to inform residents about the need to sort waste and thereby participate in the pilot program. Visit programs include visits to pilot areas and visits to the Sysav waste management and incineration plant, where sorted waste is collected and forwarded for recycling and the fraction that remains after the recyclable fractions have been removed is incinerated. In the area of the Western Harbour waste disposers for biological waste have been installed in households and the waste is transported to storage tanks in wait for transportation to biogas production plants. Sometimes a visit to biogas production facilities where biological waste is turned into fuel is included in a tour.
