There are approximately 1,000 m2 of solar cells on the roof of Kungsmadskolan, an upper secondary school in Växjö. The solar cells are estimated to deliver about 6 percent of the total energy use.
The municipal property company, Vöfab, supplies premises to the municipality of Växjö. Among others, they own Kungsmadskolan, a school building which has passed through a massive renovation and received a lot of positive response since its re-opening in December, 2008. Solar cells save energy There are approximately 1,000 m² of solar cells on the roof of the school. They are estimated to deliver about 110 MWh per year, which is equivalent to about 6 percent of the total consumption. Calculated according to marginal electricity in Europe, the savings will be 110 metric tons of carbon dioxides per year. Two displays have been placed on the premises to show the energy savings and amount of produced energy to people in the surrounding area. Further savings with insulation and new windows Parallel to the installation of the solar cells, additional insulation was added and the windows were replaced. The additional insulation is estimated to generate energy savings of approximately 97 MWh. The energy savings from replacing windows will generate about 100 MWh. Since Vöfab is a non-profit organization the savings are reinvested into the building in order to maintain the standard and carry out improvement measures.
