At Svartsjöviken in Ekerö municipality, overgrown meadows have been restored. The grounds, which had a low sustainability, were restored with newly developed aphibious vehicles, light band wagons and stump cutting equipment. Today, the meadows are harvested, which has recreated a valuable biotop. At the same time, a long-term parntnership has been established between the municipality, the farmers, the local residents, landowners and various other associations.

The restoration of wetland pastures at Svartsjöviken in Ekerö has led to both increased biodiversity and development of new technologies. Through careful preparation and a focus on information, education and dialogue, the municipality has attracted the interest and commitment to the project. With support from the Local Investment Programme (LIP), about 35 hectares of wetland adjacent to Svartsjöviken was restored in 2001, which extended the total area of wetlands to 50 hectares. Positive impacts on the environment and economy: • Improved water quality • Increased biodiversity • Richer birdlife, multi-species nesting and resting • Development of new technologies • Improved recreational opportunities
