Purdue University researchers have developed a novel optically transparent cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) substrate for use in solar cell fabrication. Solar cells fabricated on CNC substrates display a power conversion efficiency of 2.7% which is unprecedented for cells on substrates derived from renewable materials.
