Recyclable Organic Solar Cells on Cellulose Nanocrystal Substrates

Purdue University researchers have developed a novel optically transparent cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) substrate for use in solar cell fabrication. Solar cells fabricated on CNC substrates display a power conversion efficiency of 2.7% which is unprecedented for cells on substrates derived from renewable materials. In addition these solar cells can be easily recycled into their major components using low-energy processes at room temperature. Applications: Recyclable photovoltaic solar cells

Benefits:

1) Uses organic materials leading to lower costs 2) Recyclable
