Rapid pyrolosis biofuel with increased energy density

The technology provides significantly improved methods for converting biomass including woody biomass and spent pulping/fractionation liquors into highly deoxygenated fuels and chemicals. The feedstock is treated with an alkali formate which is then heated and distilled condensing the vapor product to form a pyrolysis oil that contains less than 30% oxygen by weight.
