A gain from order to delivery

A gain from order to delivery By using an e-purchasing system and an urban consolidation centre the number of deliveries to the Växjö municipal organisation is reduced by approximately 50%. The consolidation centre is (as of today) coordinating goods from 12 suppliers in the centre. The goods are delivered according to a delivery plan with predetermined routes. All 427 municipal units receiving goods are in this plan. All units have a specific delivery day according to the plan. From this each unit will know exactly when the goods arrive and they can use their time more efficiently. The first estimations of the number of transports indicate a reduction by 80 per cent. Instead of receiving 5 deliveries per day, each unit now receive deliveries only one time per day, and in some cases only one time per week (depending on the unit). Thus, the time-gain from this system is huge. Using the e-purchasing system and the urban consolidation centre has increased the efficiency throughout the whole chain from order to delivery. Since transports to the different units now are fewer the emissions from fossil vehicle fuels can be reduced by at least 50 %, just by optimizing the routes. Thus, environmental gains are also huge. Moreover, the use of an e-purchasing system leads to more sustainable purchasing patterns. Since the purchasing is done through an e-purchasing system the loyalty to the framework agreement will increase markedly, which in turn leads to better prices and contract conditions in procurements, which in turns mean saving money for the municipality (and at the end tax payers money). The e-purchasing system also opens up for promoting and setting green standards when procuring goods. The municipality now has a tool for steering the municipal purchasing units towards organic or locally produced goods. Thus, this means possibilities for further environmental gains. This reference object will include both a municipal presentation and a visit to the urban consolidation centre.
