Hydrogen Peroxide Sensing Electrode

Technology

Background: Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is used for environmental and industrial applications—such as drinking water Purification when used as a disinfectant. H2O2 use for environmental applications is not only economical but it also does not produce harmful by-products. Control over the level of H2O2 in a fluid is essential in wastewater treatment. Technology Description: This novel detection probe provides a method for continuous monitoring of H2O2 levels in environmental or industrial fluids. For example it may be used to detect H2O2 in the fluid or fluid-containing outflows or residues of bleaching steps in textile and paper production in treated wastewater and numerous other reactions in which H2O2 is used as an oxidant. All of the materials required for the analysis are present in the sensor. Because no additional chemicals need to be added testing errors due to differential reactions with treating chemicals cannot occur. This also means that recalibration is not required which is beneficial because it eliminates the time and effort recalibration would require and because it extends the service life of the sensor. Applications: 1) Wastewater treatment 2) Drinking water Purification Patent Status: US6592746
