The solar panels on the newly renovated Solhusen buildings have high symbolic value, and Solhusen has become a symbol for the whole suburb of Gårdsten. However, there is far more to Solhusen than just solar panels. Other energy-saving initiatives include replacing the inner glass panes in existing double-glazed windows with low-emission glass, additional insulation of roofs and end walls, new energy-efficient white goods, installation of motion sensor-controlled lighting in communal areas and installation of a central control and monitoring system.
