The new regional headquarters of Region Skåne is one of the most energy efficient buildings in Sweden. This represents one further step in the direction of energy efficiency – planning and constructing the energy efficient buildings of the future. Now the process to build a new center for forensic medicine in the city of Trelleborg has been started.

The project team that is developing this new, 10,000 m2 building also includes an energy coordinator who will be responsible for handling all issues related to energy and sustainability. This building is likely to achieve the building standards of the “gold” level of energy efficiency according to the Swedish classification system and become one of the largest passive houses in Europe. This means that the building will probably use zero of externally provided energy for heating. The construction of this building will start in 2014 and it will be ready in 2016. Acquifers will be used to store energy for heating and cooling between seasons. As a further step in the development the planning of another building is just about to start. This will be a new 40,000 m2 addition to the hospital in Helsingborg. In this construction project a further step will be taken toward sustainability.
