In times of more extreme weather caused by climate changes the downside with dense cities with fewer green spaces and more paved surfaces is showing. Extreme heat, flooding and reduced biodiversity, we all see it. However, blue green solutions have a positive impact. Blue Green City Lab is the testbed that evaluates new and proven solutions. The densification of cities lead to reduced space for green areas. To counteract this you can put vegetation on walls and roofs. The green walls and roofs together with blue green solutions on the ground have several positive effects. They can all delay storm water when heavy rain pours down. They can reduce the temperature in urban heat islands in the city, reduce noise and clean the air. At the same time they have a positive effect on people’s wellbeing.

In order to increase blue green solutions in the cities Blue Green City Lab evaluates blue green solutions to make it easier for building companies and real estate companies to choose the right solutions for specific needs. The testbed matches producers of blue green solutions with need owners to create cooperations for evaluations.

Ongoing evaluations are for example green walls on multistory parking garages, trees planted in different substrates, boxes for plants with water reservoirs and increasing eco system services in courtyard.

The evaluation cases are geographically placed in Malmö. Expertise from SLU (Swedish University of Agricultural Science), IVL (Swedish Environmental Research Institute) and Scandinavian Green Roof Institute are evaluating.
