At Alsterbro sewage treatment plant, wastewater is purified in three steps.

  • The first purification step consists of the mechanical removal of the coarse solids in the rotary screen.
  • The next processing step is the biological treatment in biorotor.
  • In the last purification step, chemical precipitation to remove phosphorous.

The flocculant used is polyaluminiumhydroxiklorid. Then, the treated water out of the Alsterån. Sludge from both the biological and chemical purification pumped into reed beds, where lush reeds contributes to the degradation of the sludge, among others. alia by reed plants favors oxygen supply down in the sludge.
