Opportunities within the CTCN

Working across numerous adaption and mitigation sectors, the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) provides core services: technical assistance, capacity building and knowledge sharing, and collaboration and networking.

Following the development of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) by countries in 2015, the majority of CTCN technical assistance has directly contributed to the achievement of these national commitments and the long-term goals of the Paris Agreement.

“The CTCN’s role as a matchmaker has been very useful – they are able to mobilise their network to find technical expertise that is very relevant to our situation”, noted Mr. Thinley Namgyel, Chief Environment Officer at the National Environment Commission, Bhutan.

The CTCN is co-hosted by UNEP and UNIDO and supported by more than 550 network member institutions all over the world (almost half from the private sector, mainly small and medium enterprises, it is free of charge to join the network). Therefore, the Centre is a pan-organizational entity and it is able to draw upon a broad array of skills and expertise found among its many partners.

CTCN programme for small and medium enterprises

The CTCN aims to strengthen developing countries’ industrial small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in order to move from conventional technologies to climate technologies. The intended impact of the transformation of the industrial SME markets is to mitigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change. The CTCN Technology SME clinics have a national scope and concentrate on strengthening national industrial SMEs.

The programme consists of the following elements:

1)    introducing climate technologies and international suppliers to the local SMEs,
2)    creating linkages to finance,
3)    building the capacity and awareness of the local industrial SMEs.
