Expert Group Meeting: Implementing Gender-Responsive Climate Action for Sustainable Development
Bonn, Germany 14-16 October, 2015
Stakeholders and practitioners representing academia, climate finance bodies, governments/parties, women’s organizations, and the UN system are meeting in Bonn to emphasize the interlinkages of climate change and gender equality, in order to contribute to the implementation of the Lima Work Programme on Gender and to the achievement of the following Sustainable Development Goals:
-
Goal 1 (“End poverty in all its forms everywhere”)
-
Goal 5 (“Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls”), and
-
Goal 13 (“Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts”).
Experts are also discussing the status of, and identifying good practices and practical approaches to, the implementation of gender-related mandates and decisions in UNFCCC processes and mechanisms. These include: Technology Needs Assessments (TNAs), the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN), the Green Climate Fund (GCF), and the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
The Expert Group Meeting builds on the in-session Workshop on Gender-Responsive Mitigation Action and Technology Transfer Development, held in Bonn, in June 2015, during the forty-second session of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI), and is organized by UN Women, the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations Secretariat (UN DESA), and the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC Secretariat).
