It is technically feasible to produce a medium - quality refused derived fuel (RDF) from the unsorted MSW generated in Maputo (Cidade de Cimento). Although, the final RDF will not be able to meet the calorific requirements needed to be used in the processes by the cement industry in Mozambique. 

This report includes aspects such as the national strategies for reducing and treating waste, the climate mitigation initiatives from the waste sector as well as the financial or other mechanisms to implement and incentive them, with a special focus on RDF to be used by cement industry.

This report will deliver a technical desk study with focus on the potential production of Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) from MSW from unsorted waste in Maputo and Matola, the quality specifications, as well as the RDF production flow. Furthermore, this report will describe the technical requirements that need to be fulfilled by CdM, in order to be ready for using RDF as fuel for its processes.

Economic study of producing RDF from MSW and its use as fuel for cement factories in Mozambique

This section aims at presenting existing approaches and experiences for monitoring, reporting and verification procedures for the production of RDF from MSW. As the scope of this report is to outline a general framework for MRV at RDF plants, this andthe subsequent sections will focus on only on the RDF process, starting by the reception of MSW and finishing by the storage of the final product, RDF.
