IFDC, established in the USA in October 1974, is known for its expertise in soil fertility management, fertilizers and agriculture and agribusiness that service developing countries. In 1977 under the United States of America’s Presidential Executive Order No. 11977 of March 14, IFDC was declared as a public international organization (PIO).

Since 1974, IFDC has focused on increasing and sustaining food security and agricultural productivity in over 100 developing countries through the development and transfer of effective, environmentally sound and climate smarcrop nutrient technologies and agribusiness expertise. IFDC has been working with the Government of Bangladesh (GOB) since 1977 for the uplifting of the rural farmers and the country’s agricultural economy through adoption of climate smart technology such as fertilizer deep placement (FDP).

    Contributions

    • "Rice yields and nitrogen use efficiency with different fertilizers and water management under intensive lowland rice cropping systems in Bangladesh"

      Type:
      Publication
      Publication date:
      Objective:

Optimum nitrogen rates and methods of application increase crop productivity and farm income while reducing negative environmental effects. Field experiments were conducted during four consecutive rice growing seasons in 2012–2013 to determine the effects of different N rates and methods of fertilizer application on floodwater ammonium concentration, rice yields and N use efficiency under two water regimes: continuous standing water and alternate wetting and drying (AWD).

    • IFDC Annual Report 2015

      Type:
      Publication
      Publication date:
      Objective:

Our annual reports summarize our projects and activities in our divisions throughout the world. They include project updates, success stories, training updates, initiatives, and financial summaries.

    • Proceedings of the lntemational Symposium on Improvement of Nutrient Use Efficiency under Zero Growth of Chemical Fertilizers in China

      Type:
      Publication
      Publication date:
      Objective:

Increasing nitrogen fertilizer application has increased crop productivity and met the food demands of growing populations, but its use efficiency is very low. More than 50% of applied nitrogen is not utilized by crops, posing huge economical costs and environmental concerns. Therefore, fertilizer management should consider optimum time, rates, source and methods of application (the "4Rs" of nutrient stewardship) to increase use efficiency, crop yield, soil health and farm profits and to reduce negative environmental effects.

    • "Floodwater ammonium, nitrogen use efficiency and rice yields with fertilizer deep placement and alternate wetting and drying under triple rice cropping systems"

      Type:
      Publication
      Publication date:
      Objective:

Fertilizer management should consider optimum time, rates and methods of application to increase use efficiency and crop yield. We conducted field experiments at Bangladesh Agricultural University, Bangladesh, to investigate the effects of deep placement of urea briquettes (UB) and NPK briquettes (NPK) compared to broadcast prilled urea (PU) at different N rates on dynamics of floodwater NH4?-N, ammonia (NH3) volatilization, rice yield and nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) during four consecutive rice-growing seasons in 2012–2013.
