    Context

    Pumping of water for domestic and productive uses has been difficult to maintain in Tanzania. This challenge is highly attributed by the higher costs of pumping water using conventional means such as diesel generators and electricity.

    Solar Photovoltaic (PV) technologies have enabled rural communities of Tanzania to apply this technology for lighting, water pumping, charging of cell phones, etc. Community water projects using solar pumps have benefitted from reduced running costs as compared to diesel or electric water pumps.

    Energy conversion for water pumping.Technology consists of rotary blades to convert the wind energy into mechanical energy for water pumping. Blades are designed in relation to the energy desired to pump the water about 2-3 meters long. The switching on and off is done manually to pump the water but intends to use a floater in automation. Device can pump 6000 liters per 8 hours of good wind.

    The objective of this study was to assess perceptions of rural household heads with regard to various aspects of water access and climate change, and to evaluate whether there were significant differences in perceptions of respondents from female-headed and male-headed households. The study is based on a cross-sectional survey of 300 respondents conducted in the Seke and Murewa districts of Zimbabwe in 2011. The analysis included mainly descriptive statistics.
