    As we move into the post-2015 era of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the world faces many seemingly intractable problems. Malnutrition should not be one of them. Countries that are determined to make rapid advances in malnutrition reduction can do so, and the incentives to improve nutrition are strong. Good nutrition provides a vital foundation for human development, central to meeting our full potential. When nutrition status improves, it leads to a host of positive outcomes for individuals and families.

  • In search of excellence: exemplary forest management in Asia and the Pacific

    This publication reflects the outcome of an initiative to identify instances of exemplary forest management in the region and examine the core components of high quality forest management in an effort to illustrate good forest management to a wide audience and encourage others to take up some of the most promising ideas, methods and approaches. More than 170 nominations were received from 21 countries in the region. Twenty-eight case studies were selected.

  • Economic impact of natural disasters on development in the Pacific

    This report responds to a lack in practical materials for measuring the impacts of natural disasters. It comprises two key resources:a research report which demonstrates how past natural hazards in Fiji, Niue, Tuvalu and Vanuatu have resulted in significant short-term and long-term direct, indirect and intangible impacts.The case studies suggest that natural hazards have a considerable economic impact on development in the Pacific and often lead to deterioration in the quality of life of Pacific Island communities.

    This reports on a series of assessments made for the city of Port Vila, Vanuatu to measure the baseline for understanding critical social, economic and environmental vulnerabilities and range of risks in the face of climate change.

    This report is based on knowledge generated through three visits to the city by both report authors, a variety of engagement activity (interviews, workshops and a transect walk), elicitation of local/traditional knowledge, collating and analysing available primary data, and a comprehensive desk-top analysis of relevant literature.

    The mitigation contribution for the Vanuatu INDC submission is a sector specific target of transitioning to close to 100% renewable energy in the electricity sector by 2030. This target would replace nearly all fossil fuel requirements for electricity generation in the country and be consistent with the National Energy Road Map (NERM) target of 65% renewable energy by 2020.
