The value of indigenous knowledge in climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies in the African SahelType:PublicationPublication date:Approach:
It is increasingly realised that mitigation and adaptation should not be pursued independently of each other but as complements. Integrating mitigation and adaptation into climate change concerns is not a completely new idea in the African Sahel where the local populations in this region, through their indigenous knowledge systems, have developed and implemented extensive mitigation and adaptation strategies that have enabled them to reduce their vulnerability to past climate variability and change.

The Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines recognizes that energy plays a major role in the diversification of the country's economy and in the pursuit of poverty reduction.
River flows are threatened by deforestation, variation of annual precipitation caused by climate change and competing uses, like fresh water supply and irrigation. Alternative energy and adaptation of resources will be key to sustainable livelihoods in the face of climate change, felt acutely in the islands' region.

Africa is vulnerable to climate change on two fronts: firstly, because of existing vulnerabilities and secondly, due to capacity limitations for disaster mitigation and inability to adapt to climate change.
Agricultural Water management technology expansion and impact on crop yields in northern Burkina Faso (1980-2010): a reviewType:PublicationPublication date:
Exploring the links between adoption of agricultural water management interventions and livelihoods in northern Burkina Faso
- Type:PublicationPublication date:Objective:Sectors:
When speaking of the Caribbean in the context of climate change the former is usually viewed as being a victim of the latter. While this is mostly true, what is often omitted is the fact that the region can and will play its part in global mitigation efforts - thereby taking a more proactive approach to its future. The exercise described herein involves the study of different types of renewable technologies and mitigative strategies, with the aim of making recommendations to the governments on the development of their renewable energy sector.
