PacGeo is an open access geospatial data repository for the Pacific Region providing premier geophysical, geodetic, and marine spatial data sets. Developed through collaboration between the GeoScience Division of Secretariat of the Pacific Community (GSD/SPC), University of Sydney, Geoscience Australia (GA), and GRID-Arendal. The development of PacGeo was combined with targeted training and capacity building activities conducted at the Pacific Maritime Boundary Working Group Meetings, held twice yearly at the University of Sydney and at other ad hoc events in the region.

The Asia-Pacific Regional Human Development Report (APHDR) focuses on the need for the region to find ways to continue to grow economically, while reducing poverty and tackling climate change and environmental concerns. The report addresses climate challenges facing small island developing states (SIDS) in the region with special attention given to the least developed countries (LDCs), including Kiribati, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Timor-Leste, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.

This comprehensive set of scientific and social instruments helps local governments and communities to assess their vulnerability to climate change and form their own climate change adaptation plans to address local conditions. So far it has been adopted in pilot sites in the Coral Triangle, such as the Nino Konis Santana National Park in Timor-Leste, Verde Island Passage in the Philippines, Kei Islands in Indonesia, the proposed Tun Mustapha Park in Malaysia, Kimbe Bay in Papua New Guinea, and Western Province in the Solomon Islands.

This report focuses on the community as the central point of measuring vulnerability to climate change in Choiseul Province of the Solomon Islands. It discusses the factors that affect people’s resilience to the impacts of climate change at the community level. Given the close connectivity of livelihoods and natural resources in the region, ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA) approaches are deemed an appropriate adaptation response in Choiseul Province. The report recommends a number of adaptation options addressing land, coastal, community and sea-based vulnerabilities.

The development objective of the Community Resilience to Climate and Disaster Risk Project for Solomon Islands (CRISP) is to increase the capacity of selected rural communities to manage natural hazards and climate change risks. The project has four components. The first component, integration of climate change adaptation (CCA) and disaster risk reduction (DRR) in government policies and operations objective is to support policy development, capacity building, and institutional strengthening aimed at integrating governance and operational processes for CCA and DRR.
