  • Objective

Solar thermal technology can be used to provide heating for domestic or industrial uses. A solar heating system can capture the sun's radiation and use it for both hot water heating and supplement home heating by piping hot water through traditional or modern radiators, furnaces, or use it in hydronic system for in floor radiant heat. In most cases solar should be used with conventional power as a supplement, this way you never have to rely completely on the sun shinning. An important part of a home solar system is the controller. The controller senses input and output temperatures.

    Objective

This road map envisages that by 2050, solar energy could annually produce 16.5 EJ of solar heating, more than 16% of total final energy use for low temperature heat, and 1.5 EJ solar cooling, nearly 17% of total energy use for cooling. For solar heating and cooling to play its full role in the coming energy revolution, concerted action is required by scientists, industry, governments, financing institutions and the public. This road map is intended to help drive these necessary developments.

    Objective

This publication by the International Energy Agency's (IEA) Solar Heating and Cooling Programme (SHC) documents the solar thermal capacity in worldwide markets, assesses the contribution of these systems to energy supplies and evaluates the carbon dioxide emissions avoided by the use of solar energy systems. The report includes data from 55 countries representing about 61 per cent of the world's population.

  • Background: The proposed system dehumidifies the air and uses its energy for water heating. The condensed water can subsequently be given back to the dried air in an evaporative cooling process; or when only dehumidification is desired it can be simply drained from the system. This unit can utilize the A/C latent load for domestic water heating resulting in significant energy savings for water heating and A/C. The system can control humidity in residential buildings resulting in comfort and significant health benefits.
