Water is fundamental to the well being of women and men both in the household and productive activities and is key to poverty reduction and development. Water is also a strategic resource in that its control is a source of power. Interventions that change the control, use of and access to water resources inevitably raise gender issues and opportunities. This report provides key considerations and recommendations in this area drawing on lessons learnt from case studies in Indonesia, Bangladesh, India and Sudan.

The reports informs on what ten million people from low-income groups have gained from access to modern energy services, particularly in least developed countries. The positive impacts of the EnDev programme has been in reducing poverty and improving productive use of energy, in better living and health conditions for women and children, in better learning in schools (light, electric power), in job creation and, last not least, in saving of more than 950 000 tons of firewood and nearly a one million tons of CO2 emissions per year.

The Laguna Lake Development Authority’s carbon-forestry project, called the Laguna de Bay Community Watershed Rehabilitation Project, consists of two components: 1) Project 1,which covers an aggregate of 140 ha over 10 barangays within the Caliraya-Lumot Watershed.
