Nauru has a heavy reliance on imported fossil fuels, which is used for electricity generation, transportation and cooking. The costs of energy services become extremely high due to this dependency, which results in high carbon emissions and creates a huge drain of scarce funds, which is not sustainable for the long-term development of Nauru.
